The University of Zululand's Dr Lucky Asuelime says the recent attacks in Mali, France, Nigeria are indicative of a shift in the strategy of terrorist groups, placing South Africa under threat.

Asuelime believes the country must prepare for when the attacks come, and not argue about whether or not we will be targeted.

''There is no place safe in the world right now, not even South Africa. There is no guarantee that tomorrow the attacks will not reach the country.

''It's not about [whether we're at risk] but it's about timing - when the terrorism will spread,'' he said.

Our Ministry of State Security has repeatedly assured South Africans there is no need to panic.

Minister David Mahlobo says they are working with international intelligence agencies to ensure there are no threats to the country's security.
