MEC: Teenage pregnancy in KZN is worrying
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
The KZN Health Department says there have been 50 teenage pregnancies in the Mndozo area in rural Newcastle in the past 18 months.
MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo says he received the information while officially opening a clinic in the area yesterday.
Dhlomo says records show the fathers are all older than 28-years-old.
"Some of them are 13-years-old. Thirteen to 17-year-old children who are pregnant in these small communities. It is not something we should be happy about," he said.
