Teen recovering after falling off train
Updated | By News24
"Ma, I nearly died."
These were the first words a KwaZulu-Natal teenager said to her mother when she visited her at a KwaMashu clinic after the girl fell from a moving train on Monday morning.
Nonzondolelo Sithole, 60, from J section in KwaMashu said her daughter Smangele, 14, left home at around 06:00 for school.
Sithole said she received a phone call later informing her that something had happened and that she should rush to the KwaMashu train station.
"I used to tell her not to take a train because it is not safe but her friends persuaded her to take the train.
"She told me that on Monday all the other doors were closed except for one and she went to that one. She had one foot in the train and the train started moving and she slipped and fell onto the platform."
Sithole said her daughter fell on her knees and watched the train go by right next to her.
"I received a phone call that she fell at the train station. I was scared. It was God that saved her. I don't know how she survived."
Sithole said her daughter was recovering well at home.
