Teen praised after family escapes Toti house fire
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
A teenage boy from Amanzimtoti's being hailed a hero, after raising the alarm when a huge early morning fire broke out in his family's Kissin Lane home.
Luan Jacobs says his wife, their three boys and grandmother were fast asleep on Sunday morning.
It was their two small dogs that alerted their 15-year-old son, who got everyone else up.
"He was shouting that the house is on fire. When I woke up - he couldn't breath. When I turned the flashlight on - you couldn't see through the smoke. It was all that chaos - of trying to phone the fire department. We didn't know what was happening, where to go or what to do."

Jacobs says they were treated for smoke inhalation.
Their hearts broke when they realised that everything they owned and their double-storey home - were gone.
But he says the support from family, friends and the local community has been overwhelming.
