Police say the woman was attacked in her house at Dweshula location in Port Shepstone.

The knife thought to be the murder weapon was found on the scene.

The 19-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate's Court today

The Social Development Department's Ncumisa Fandesi says the suspect had worried a few family members before the murder.

"We are told that on Saturday the young man went to his aunt's house and asked her to open the door so he could rape her. There were other family members in the hose. He chased them away and he went to his second aunt's house. We don't really know what transpired there.

"The aunt was found murdered. The MEC has condemned the cruelty in which this murder was committed," she said.
