A teenage relative of a three-year-old Ladysmith girl has been arrested in connection with her murder.
Police say the suspect initially told authorities that Asemahle Ntsalintshali woke up vomiting last week Thursday and died.
He claimed the child had eaten some snacks the night before at their home in Matiwaneskop.
An inquest docket was opened at Elandslaagte SAPS.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says at that time, no foul play was suspected.
"An intensive investigation and the medical examination revealed that the child had internal blood clots in her head and kidneys. It was established that the child was severely assaulted and sustained internal injuries.
“The inquest docket was then changed to murder. The investigation conducted by police led to the arrest of the relative.”
The 19-year-old suspect, who is facing a charge of murder, will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
