Teargas leaves Mandeni primary school pupils injured

Scores of children from a primary school in Mandeni have been rushed to local clinics after being affected by teargas.

It's believed they became caught in a stand-off between protesting residents and police on Wednesday afternoon.
Officers are said to have used teargas to try and disperse the crowd.

IPSS Medical Rescue's Dylan Meyrick says paramedics found that some of the pupils from the Lower Tugela Primary School had inhaled the gas.
"Twenty-six children have been transported to various faculties by IPSS Medical Rescue alert ambulance service and EMRS. Twenty-five of them in a stable condition, one in a moderate condition.

"Approximately 80 children were transported privately by the local taxi association to various clinics in the area, all in a stable condition. The scene is now being cleared. Fire department are on scene."
