Four men, arrested during an intelligence-driven operation, lined up in court on attempted murder charges on Thursday.

The gang is believed to have shot a taxi passenger during a shooting in Babanango, last month.

Police found three minibus taxis riddled with bullet holes.

One of the suspects, due back in court on Friday, has also been charged in connection with a drive-by shooting on Nkonjeni Mayiwane Road in January.

A 55-year-old man was wounded.

KZN police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says two of the suspects are taxi owners, the other two worked as security officers at a local rank.

"The four suspects were also charged with malicious damage to property. On Friday, 5 May 2023, the Organised Crime officers raided a security company’s offices in Durban and seized four AK-47 assault rifles and four pistols.

"These firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine whether they have been used in the commission of crimes."
