Taxi Association whistleblowers targeted, says taxi owner

A taxi boss in uMnambithi formerly Ladysmith says they're fearing for their life due to factionalism within the Klipriver Taxi Association.
On Friday, taxi operators took part in a shutdown over claims of money laundering within the association.
They say an audit report found that over R3 million had been stolen from the association's accounts allegedly by a former official.
A taxi owner who spoke to Newswatch says they're forced to pay a weekly fee of R200 to their committee for every minibus they own whether or not it's operating.

They say whistleblowers are being targeted.
"People are being killed on the streets. This issue is very serious I could also be dead by tomorrow.
"When you get in the way of corrupt people, they make sure to remove you.
"The cause of recent deaths is because we are exposing this corruption. No one has even been arrested for the theft," says the driver.
Officials from KZN Transport and taxi council SANTACO have been meeting this weekend to try and bring stability in KZN's taxi industry.
