Task team tackles PMB robbery syndicate
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
KZN police have put together a 70-member strong task team to investigate a group of robbers believed to be targeting affluent schools in Pietermaritzburg.
More than R1-million's worth of computers have been stolen.
Three schools have been hit since Saturday with police saying the burglars have adopted the same modus operandi in each instance.
Police say in all the schools that have been hit a number of things are similar.
The gang would hit a school at around midnight, force open school gates, jam the alarm system, disconnect the CCTV cameras and steal computers before transporting them in a heavy goods truck.
While security companies are baffled by how the group by-pass security systems, police are urging members of the public not to buy these stolen goods.
They say if they come across anyone selling second hand computers which are suspected to be stolen to contact their nearest police station immediately.
They're also encouraging anyone who may know anything to come forward. Police say the group operates in an organised manner.
