Task team probes Umbumbulu taxi-related attacks

A provincial task team has been put together to investigate the recent spate of taxi-related killings in Umbumbulu, south of Durban.
KZN Transport met with traditional leaders and heads of the local taxi associations yesterday.
More than 80 people have been killed in the region and surrounding areas since the beginning of the year.
In the latest incident, 58-year-old Bonginkosi Makhanya and his 16-year-old son Melusi were gunned down.

They were on their way to a school on the R603, outside Isipingo, last month, when they came under attack.
The department's Kwanele Ncalane says they're hopeful arrests will be made soon.
"We are quite optimistic that with a level of commitment - there are additional deployments that have been made. All necessary security arrangements will be able to arrest the situation in the area. There's a task team dealing with investigating all cases reported - of murder and attempted murder in the area," Ncalane said.
