Sydenham cops out on bail for allegedly stealing booze
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Three Sydenham police officers have been granted bail of R1000 in the Durban Magistrate's Court after they allegedly stole thousands of rands worth of alcohol.
It's understood the two Sergeants and a Constable went to a home in Clare Road.
Detectives say liquor valued at R24,000 was seized from a woman, who'd allegedly sold alcohol last month.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Jay Naicker says it's understood they demanded and received R20 000 from the woman for her release.

"When the complainant went to the Sydenham Police Station, she found that the suspects only handed in a few bottles of alcohol as abandoned and that they had not opened a case against her.
"Police immediately opened a criminal docket against the police officers and reported the matter to the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit," says Naicker.
Naicker says they've been charged with corruption and theft and will be back in court in August.
