Suspected poisoning kills 100 vultures, hyena in Kruger National Park

The South African National Parks says more than 100 vultures and a hyena have died in a suspected poisoning incident at the Kruger National Park.

Rangers patrolling the Punda Maria Section say it was a horrific sight.
They found the animals on Thursday, lying close to the carcass of a buffalo.
"So far we counted over 100 vulture carcasses and a hyena next to a buffalo which we suspect was laced with poison and the birds and animals fed from it," says spokesperson for SANParks Isaac Phaahla.
"There are indications that the dead animals had some of their body parts harvested."

Phaahla says 20 birds that were still alive were rushed to a rehabilitation centre for treatment.
The scene's been cordoned off for investigations and the carcasses disposed of.
"South African police have processed the scene after we reported and it has also been managed accordingly to avoid further poisoning. We have also appealed to local tradional healers to look around and give us any information that will help us,” says Phaahla.
