Three suspected thieves lined up in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges related to copper theft.

Police say the trio, who are all foreign nationals, were arrested last week after they were found in possession of a suspected stolen trailer and container carrying R6 million worth of copper.
Spokesperson Robert Netshuinda says both the trailer and container were reportedly taken from Maydon Wharf at the Durban Harbour last Wednesday.

"Information at police's disposal indicate that a driver, who is also a foreign national, picked up a truck from a terminal on Bremen Road in Bayhead, Durban, on the afternoon of 16 August 2023.
"The truck was later found abandoned on Sharkmesher Road in Bayhead, but the trailer and the container with copper were missing, and the driver was nowhere to be found. The matter was reported to the police, and investigations commenced."
Police were led to a farm in Bishopstowe in Pietermaritzburg where the trailer and the copper were found.
