Suspected Chatsworth kingpin arrested in organised raid

A wanted Chatsworth suspected drug dealer and alleged leader of the 11th Street gang has been arrested by police at his lavish home following a co-coordinated blitz in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Members of the KZN Anti-Gangs Unit, the National Intervention Unit along with the Durban Metro police waited till just after midnight before they pounced armed with protective gear, automated weaponry and a search warrant. 


The man was wanted for and arrested on suspected drug dealing, possession of unlicensed firearms and a 2008 murder as well as a conspiracy to commit murder. 


The police's Thembeka Mbhele says shortly after the suspected kingpin's arrest the unexpected happened, as he suddenly became extremely ill.


"After the suspect was placed under arrest and escorted to the police station he suddenly became ill", she said.


"The suspect was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where it was by doctors the he had a heart attack and taken to ICU", Mbhele said.


"He is currently still in ICU and will be charged in absentia", she said.
