Two suspected carjackers have been hospitalised, and another
arrested, following a shootout with private security guards in Durban North.
Marshall Security says officers received information on a car theft in process in Russell Place on Friday night.
Spokesperson Kyle van Reenen says response teams arrived
at the scene to find five people trying to steal an SUV.
“The suspected alighted from the vehicle and allegedly
opened fire on officers before attempted to flee in a get away vehicle.
Officers returned fire, striking two of the suspects before managing to arrest
one of them,” he said.
Van Reenen says the police K9 Unit was called in to
assist.
“A search of the area was conducted, resulting in the arrest
of two other suspects,” said Van Reenen.
It is understood they sustained gunshot and dog bite
wounds.
Two people are still on the run.
