Suspect sought after ‘confessing’ to murder of girlfriend in Esikhaleni

A manhunt has been launched for a man wanted in connection with the murder of his girlfriend in Esikhaleni in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Police say 41-year-old Phumlani Mthembu called his sister last month and told her that he had killed 35-year-old Nokubonga Zungu and was heading to Port Dunford.
Spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says his sister called the police and they made their way to the Mzingwenya Reserve.
Gwala says when they got to the cottages, they found Zungu's body.

"A knife was found placed next to the deceased’s head. A case of murder was opened at Esikhaleni SAPS for investigation.
"A warrant of arrest has been issued by the court; however the suspect is on the run and his current whereabouts are unknown.
"We appeal to anyone who may have information regarding the whereabouts of the Phumlani Mthembu to contact the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Sifiso Sabela on 082 557 0712/ 035 796 8027 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.”
