Suspect linked to Andile Mbuthu's murder killed in drive-by shooting

The man who was killed in a drive-by shooting in Tongaat this morning was the main suspect in the murder of teenager Andile Mbuthu.

Police say Mlungisi Thabethe was shot on Gopalall Hurbans Road.

"The deceased is one of the suspects that has been appearing in court for the killing of Andile Bobo Mbuthu and he was out on bail and was signing at Umhlali Police Station as one of his bail conditions. At the moment, the motive of the killing is unknown but is subject to investigation."
Thabethe was one of six men accused of murdering 16-year-old Andile Mbuthu in May last year.

The boy's body was found dumped in a river two weeks after he was reported missing.
He'd been assaulted for allegedly stealing liquor at a tavern.
Thabethe who was Andile's cousin, was granted bail last year after approaching the Durban High Court to set aside the lower court's decision in July to deny them bail.
