Suspect killed in police shootout in Clermont

A man has been killed and another wounded in a shootout with Durban police.
Police say officers were busy with a crime prevention operations near Pinetown this morning when they noticed a suspicious vehicle with six occupants.
Spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says the driver sped off and the occupants opened fire on police when the officers tried to stop the vehicle.
"The members retaliated and the suspects' vehicle went up to Clermont were they came to a dead end road. That's when they crashed their vehicle. When the police arrived, they noticed that one suspect was shot and killed. The second one was taken to hospital for treatment under police guard," he said.
Zwane says the other four suspects remain on the run.
"They found two unlicensed firearms, the vehicle was also found to have been hijacked from the eShowe area in northern KwaZulu-Natal. The suspects will be facing charges of attempted murder, the possession of an unlicensed firearm ammunition as well as possession of property suspected to be stolen," he said.
