Suspect killed, cop hurt in Cato Crest shootout

A Durban police officer who was injured during a shooting that killed a robbery suspect is recovering in hospital.
The police’s Robert Netshiunda says a task team on Thursday night followed up on information about the man, who was wanted for a string of robberies.
He says the suspect was traced to the Cato Crest informal settlement.
Netsiunda says when he saw officers, he opened fire.

"The suspect also shot and injured his 27-year-old accomplice.
"With the arrival of police backup from the Durban K9 unit the suspect was traced and cornered and continued shooting at the police and a shootout ensued. The suspect was fatally wounded and was declared dead at the scene."
The injured suspect is under police guard at a hospital.
A case of attempted murder is being investigated.
