Suspect faces murder charge over fatal Bluff armed robbery

A 30-year-old suspect will today be appearing in court in connection with a robbery and the murder of a policeman on the Bluff.

Constable, Thomas Khwela and other officers went to a convenience store at the garage - not knowing that a robbery was in progress.
The 37-year-old Brighton Beach cop was shot and killed after officers gave chase and tried to apprehend the fleeing group of suspects.

The KZN Safety Department's Sipho Khumalo has called for justice for the slain policeman.
"The MEC is also extending his condolences to the family of the officer, and he directed the police to work around the clock to ensure he gets those who are responsible," he said.
The suspect who has been charged with robbery and murder, is appearing in the Durban Magistrates' Court today.
The others managed to escape, taking cash and cigarettes they had stolen from the store.
