Social workers have been deployed to the home of an elderly woman in KwaHlabisa in northern KwaZulu-Natal after a video of ther being assaulted by a teenager was circulated online.
In the clip, which went viral on social media, the 69-year-old is seen being hit with a stick after an exchange with the teen believed to be related to her.
Police say a 19-year-old, who was charged with common assault, appeared in court last week and was released on a warning.
KwaZulu-Natal Social Development's Ncumisa Ndelu says the teen, who's in Grade 11 and has a 13-month-old child, suffers from social behavioural problems.
