Supply chain management hampers service delivery: Makwetu

Auditor General Kimi Makwetu has once again identified supply management as a critical deficiency in service delivery.

Makwetu released three performance audits dealing with management of pharmaceuticals, water infrastructure and urban renewal projects in Gauteng.
Performance audits assess whether government is delivering services in the least expensive way.

In all three reports, Makwetu highlights common themes which are hampering efficient and effective service delivery; leadership and oversight, funding, project management and operations, and intergovernmental coordination.
Makweu says in order to achieve goals set out in the NDP, government must institute strong controls - with the necessary discipline and levels of excellence.
