Sugar tax to kick in next year

SARS says it will begin collecting a sugar tax from April.
Former Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan announced the levy during his budget speech in February last year.
Spokesperson for the revenue service, Sandile Memela says the legislation provides for sugary beverages manufactured in South Africa and those imported to be subjected to the special tax.

Memela says imported products will be taxed when they are cleared for consumption here, while locally-produced products will be taxed at source.
