Succeeding Mkhwanazi no easy task - expert
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
An independent policing expert says replacing KwaZulu-Natal's police chief Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi will be no easy task, when his term comes to an end next year.

"It's going to be a difficult position to fill for someone else coming in. Very big boots to fill. He's a career policeman. He's got an exemplary track record. He qualified on merit. Then, of course, his well-known stance against criminals, especially organised criminal groups," says expert Johan Burger.
Mkhwanazi told Parliament in March that he intends to serve out his term.
The province's police head also hit back at claims of abuse of power, saying they were an attempt to tarnish his reputation.

Burger says his successor will have a challenging portfolio.
" It's a very difficult province to police. Mkwanazi, I think to a large extent, showed the commitment to try and police, he was firm about his police officers.
"His position always was very clear. You act within the law, but if your life is threatened or the lives of anyone else, you have the right to use force, and that includes daily force."
