Mkhwanazi tight-lipped on ongoing probe

KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi would not be drawn on the probe against him as he spoke to reporters in Durban.

He is accused of alleged interference in the arrest of a senior official in the Department of Correctional Services in 2023.
Mkhwanazi has dismissed the claims as a smear campaign, and part of a political plan to divert his focus on fighting crime.
Last week, some media reports, citing a letter from police watchdog, IPID, claimed the provincial commissioner had been cleared of the charges.

But it has been clarified that the letter, sent last month, only stated that he no longer needed to provide a statement in the investigation.
A march organised by Mkhwanazi's supporters had been planned for Friday but was called off amid the claims in the media.
Mkhwanazi was tight-lipped about it at a briefing at the SAPS provincial headquarters in Durban on Monday afternoon.
"I don't do investigations, Ipid does investigations. So go and ask Ipid about the questions. I did not plan the march, those who organised the march - you need to ask them about the march."
