Students must voice concerns in constructive manner: Dlamini-Zuma
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma says the University of Fort Hare in the Eastern Cape has a critical role to play in the realisation of the African continent's aspirations and ambitions.
Dlamaini-Zuma made the comment at the university's centenary celebrations currently underway in Alice. The celebrations come amid violent protests at the varsity.
Speaking directly to students, Dlamini-Zuma reminded them of the ANC Youth League's slogan - 'the youth must learn'.
"Students are known for pursuing the boundaries in the struggles of the people and furthering their own demands. This is what we expect from students. However, this goes with responsibility and it must be done in a constructive manner.
"We indeed have high expectations that bring to bare your youthful energies, daring innovation and creativity to help us transform the Africa we have into the Africa we want," she said.
Zimbabwean President and former Fort Hare student, Robert Mugabe also addressed delegates.
"Here I was academically born. And here I was transformed and I truly discovered my African identity and African personality," he said.
