Student protests: Durban police monitoring Hospital Road
Updated | By Portia Cele
Officials are maintaining a strong police presence in Durban's South Beach area.

That's after violent protest action on Hospital Road in the CBD last night.
Students, who're believed to be from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, blocked off access to the road and set fire to mattresses and furniture.
The police's Thembeka Mbele says no one was arrested last night.
"Yesterday, just after 10pm, a group of students blockaded Hospital Road. They burned beds and bins. The police managed to disperse the crowd peacefully and no injuries were reported. The students are from UKZN. They are using the accommodation on Hospital Road in Point," Mbele said.
