Strong police presence at UKZN PMB after building set alight
Updated | By Lucky Khanyile
Although calm has returned to UKZN's Pietermaritzburg campus following the torching of an examination hall - there's still a strong police presence.
The hall was set alight in the early hours of this morning.
Investigators are at the scene trying to establish the
exact cause of the blaze.
On Monday night, a cafeteria at the university's Howard College campus in Durban was also set alight.
UKZN's Lesiba Seshoka says everything is under control.
"Classes are continuing. They are continuing as usual. We have got the public order policing on our campus, we also have got our own security on our campuses to ensure that there are no problems," he said.
Meanwhile the SRC has distanced itself from the torching of the hall.
The SRC President Siphelele Nguse says as student leaders they condemn such actions, saying they don't participate in "criminal" behaviour.
It is not yet understood if the fires set at both campuses were done so by the same individual or group.
