Striking Fawu members march to Unilever in Umhlanga

A group of KZN employees affiliated to the Food and Allied Workers Union has marched to Unilever’s head office in Umhlanga.
The march came as a wage strike by Unilever workers entered its third week.
KZN employees affiliated Fawu are demanding a 9.5% pay hike, while the company has put a 5.8% offer on the table.
The union is adamant it won’t budge.
It's also accusing the employer of withholding vital information during negotiations such as labour costs.
Marchers have handed over a memorandum of demands to company bosses.

It's representing some 600 workers based at the Riverhorse Valley industrial precinct where Unilever’s manufacturing takes place.
FAWU’s Sibonelo Mbuyazi says they are also demanding an increase in shift allowances and sick leave.
The unions also wants Unilever to provide workers with vouchers to buy the company's products at discounted prices.
