Strike sees KZN health facilities forced to ration resources
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Many public health
facilities in KZN are rationing health resources to ensure patients are taken
care of during the Nehawu strike
Provincial officials say they have recorded a high rate of staff absenteeism after the work stoppage kicked off on Monday.
They have had to source food from alternative suppliers for patients.
In response to staff intimidation, and disruptions at hospital entrances in eThekwini, uMgungundlovu and Ilembe Districts, the department says it's beefed-up security.

"All of this has had a dire impact in various critical areas in public health value chain such as hospital intensive care and high care units, emergency medical services, maternity wards, accidents and emergency units, both wards, laboratory services and mortuaries," says the department's spokesperson Mdu Ncalane.
He says they are monitoring the situation closely.
"The department is trying everything in its power to mitigate the impact of the strike including the expeditious completion of post mortems."
