Strike action in the petroleum sector
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
About 20 000 employees from truck drivers to refinery and depot staff and belonging to the Chemical Energy Paper Printing Wood and Allied Workers Union, have downed tools.
This after failed talks to reach a nine percent wage offer among other things.
The employer is reportedly offering seven percent.
The union's Clement Chitja says workers will not back down from their position.
"We will see a shortage of fuel to the filling stations, but we believe it wouldn't be immediately felt from the members of the public. At the moment the filling stations have enough fuel and the effect of the strike will only be felt about three days into the strike," he said.
