'Strategy in place' for Umlazi waste removal

A service delivery strategy has been put in place to solve the problem of waste collection in Umlazi.

Fresh from a health scare Acting eThekwini Mayor, Fawzia Peer rolled up her sleeves for a clean-up campaign in the Durban township yesterday. The streets in Umlazi have recently been an eyesore - with piles of rubbish left rotting for weeks due to a strike by contractors.
Peer says they are working on the problem.
"We will ensure the are is clean is due cause and we will be in-source workers in future", she said.
"This will ensure the the municipality provides waste removal services to all its citizens", Peer said.
The clean-up campaign came on the back of a council decision to no longer outsource the waste collection service.
