Some shops have temporarily shut their doors as the protest moves through towards the local police station.

It is being led by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) after 36 people were killed in the area, allegedly by vigilantes, during the unrest last month.

What started off as a mostly peaceful demonstration on Thursday has seen a few moments of disorder when some protesters hurled verbal threats to local Indians who had been watching from the side of the road and from their homes.

A few objects and stones were also flung towards some homes while businesses rushed to closed their doors.

A number of local shopping centers, some of which housed banks, liquor and grocery stores, among others, also opted to close operations.

Meanwhile, protesters were making their to the Phoenix police station, where a military helicopter and a SAPS helicopter are continuously weeping the sky.
