Still no sight of lions ‘spotted’ in Nembe area
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
There was still no sight on Tuesday of two lions apparently seen roaming the Nembe area in northern KZN.
Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife rangers have been searching the area since Sunday.
It's after three families reported seeing the lions, a male and a female, this weekend.
Ezemvelo spokesperson Musa Mtambo said the Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park, which has a number of lions, is more than 100km away.
“Ezemvelo has not received any reports of livestock being killed by lions. It would be a rare occasion for the lions to walk for more than 100 kilometres without killing any livestock. Hluhluwe to iMfolozi is an extremely long way which has a lot of developed areas.
“When lions have left the iMfolozi section of the park in the past, they have always followed the river—either the White Umfolozi River or the Umfolozi towards Babanango and Vryheid.”
