Still no closure for Marikana families

Today marks six years since the horrific shootings that led to the deaths of 34 striking Lonmin workers.

As South Africans remember the Marikana massacre today, the miners' grieving families and civil rights groups have intensified their call for justice.  

The women who lost their husbands wept at a ceremony at Lonmin yesterday to remember those who died. 

Thembani Mthinti, a mother of four, whose husband was shot and killed by police officers says they don't have closure.

"Things are difficult, it's very difficult. I do work but the money is too little and I have a lot of children I have to provide for. There is no other parent - there's no grandmother, there's no father. I am all alone," he said. 

Platinum producer, Lonmin held a memorial ceremony in Mooinooi for the workers who were killed during a week-long wage strike in August 2012.
