Stellenbosch students suspended over 'blackface' incident

Two Stellenbosch University students have been suspended from their residence following a 'blackface' incident at the institution.

A picture of two female students smeared with what appears to be black paint during a housewarming party has been circulate
In a statement, management of the university says a case has been registered with the university's Equality Unit - which was recently established to deal with all forms of discrimination.
A meeting was held at the Heemstede Residence on Friday evening where students voiced their anger and hurt about the incident.
The university says it views the incident in a serious light, especially because there is an ongoing debate on racism in the country.
There was a similar incident at Stellenbosch University in 2014 involving two former KZN private school pupils.
They attended a party dressed up as Venus and Serena Williams with their faces painted black.
