Steep fuel price and RAF levies to hit at midnight

Adjustments to the Fuel and Road Accident Fund Levies kick in at midnight, adding to whopping price increases at the pumps.

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy says petrol costs are going up by R1 a litre.


Consumers are going to have to tighten their purse strings again, as the year's fourth consecutive fuel price hike - takes effect at midnight. 


The Department says petrol's going up between 95 cents and R1 a litre. 


It explained that during the period under review - the average price of Brent Crude oil increased and the rand depreciated against the Dollar.

Depending on the grade - diesel users will have to fork out between 63 and 65 cents per litre. 


Illuminating paraffin - will see a jump of 35 cents per litre.


You will remember that fuel tax increases the Finance Minister told us about in February, take effect from April. 


The fuel and RAF levies took the costs of both petrol and diesel up by 16 cents and 11 cents a litre respectively.
