Steenhuisen wins second term as DA leader
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
DA leader John Steenhuisen, federal chairperson Ivan Meyer
and chairperson of the federal council Helen Zille will all serve another three
years at the helm of the party.
The official opposition held its two-day elective conference in Midrand on Saturday and Sunday.
Steenhuisen beat former Johannesburg mayor Mpho Phalatse to remain the leader in the run-up to the general elections next year.
City of Cape Town's mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith and the party's national spokesperson Solly Malatsi were elected as his deputies.
Western Cape MEC for Local Government Anton Bredell has been elected the third deputy federal chairperson.
Zille, who was elected unopposed, also has three deputies.

Ashor Sarupen is the first deputy chairperson of the federal council, Annelie Lotriet is the second deputy chairperson and Thomas Walters is the third deputy federal chairperson.
Dion George has been re-elected as the DA’s federal finance chairperson.
The party's chief presiding officer Greg Krumbock declared the results as compliant with all DA election requirements and rules.
"They were signed off by us, as presiding officers, as well as the candidates’ party agents and also a professional audit firm who acted as independent external auditors and who oversaw the voting process. All individuals who observed voting consider the elections free and fair.
“This congress was not only the largest, but also the most accessible and participatory congress in the history of the DA," he added.
