Statues of Luthuli, Kennedy to be installed in KZN museum

Two bronze statues of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and Chief Albert Luthuli will be installed at the Luthuli Museum in Groutville near KwaDukuza on the north coast.
The two were remembered yesterday, 50 years after Kennedy's visit to the Luthuli home in 1966.
Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa was among the dignitaries.
He says the installation will serve as a reminder of a once dark history and that hope was rekindled by Kennedy and Luthuli.
''This anniversary event remembering and celebrating their lives offers an opportunity for all of us to rekindle and re-ignite our commitment to fight and stand for what they believed and died for. That is a better South Africa, a better Africa, a better America and a better world,'' he said.
Kerry Kennedy reflected on her father's visit saying his encounter with Chief Luthuli informed his understanding of apartheid and race relations.
''Meeting Chief Luthuli, my father described as a experience for him. He said that he had met a man who was so deeply committed, so spiritual and somebody who was wise. The quality that my father admired more than anything else except for love was courage,'' she said.
