President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Monday evening that he had appointed Ambassador Thembisile Majola as the agency's director-general.

Majola’s appointment is effective from Tuesday 1 March.

In a statement released by the Presidency, Ramaphosa said Majola’s appointment is important to the stability of intelligence services.

Majola is a former Deputy Minister of Energy and was South Africa’s ambassador to Senegal, Mauritania, Cape Verde, Gambia and Guinea Bissau.
