State plans appeal in Hillcrest child pornography case
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
The State is considering appealing against the suspended sentence given to a Hillcrest man who confessed to a raft of child pornography-related charges levelled against him earlier this year.
The Serial and Electronic Crimes Investigation Unit - operating within the Family Violence, Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Unit - arrested Timothy Taylor late last year.
This year, he opted to plead guilty to a total of 1550 counts. He was sentenced yesterday at the Pinetown Regional Court. The National Prosecuting Authority's Natasha Kara says the DPP is busy considering a way forward.

"The accused was sentenced to a period of five years imprisonment which was wholly suspended for five years on condition that he pays a fine of R80 000 to an NGO. The director of public prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal, Advocate Moipone Noko is aware of this sentence.
"We are considering calling for the judgement - to look at the merits of the case - and appealing that is an option," Kara said.
