State capture commission granted another extension
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
The commission of inquiry into state capture has been granted a three-month extension.
This is the fifth extension granted to the commission since it started its work in August 2018.
The urgent application was heard in the High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday.
The commission said it had one more witness who will give oral testimony and will use the rest of the time to finalise its report.
“The only outstanding work subject to one possible hearing of one witness, that will take a day at most two.
"The real work that remains is completing the various drafts of the sections of the report of the commission,” said advocate Paul Kennedy, representing the commission.
The commission's previous extension ends on Thursday.
“My own rewinding around it is also that it wouldn’t make any sense at all after all the work spanning over the years just for the commission to complete its work, it would be unreasonable not to give the extension it would disadvantage everyone,” said Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela.
