Standerton teen, aunt killed after falling into maize silo

A teenage boy and his
aunt have died after falling into a maize silo in Standerton, Mpumalanga.
Police are investigating the circumstances that lead to the deaths of 13-year-old Kerneels Rautenbach and 33-year-old Jackie Rautenbach.
Kerneels was playing with a friend on Friday evening when he fell into the silo filled with maize.
Jackie, after hearing the frantic cries for help, rushed to the scene and tried to pull the minor out of the silo.

She slipped and also fell into the maize silo.
“The woman's husband, who was a few meters away, heard loud screams for help and rushed closer to the scene but it was sadly too late to save their lives,” says provincial police spokesperson Selvy Mohalala.
Mohalala says no foul play is suspected at this stage.
