Stage 2 load shedding will prevent total blackout - De Ruyter

With Stage 2 load shedding set to begin at 11am on Wednesday – Eskom has been explaining the need for the scheduled power cuts this time around.
CEO Andre de Ruyter says they have to switch the lights off to avoid a total system blackout.
He briefed the media briefing on Wednesday morning.
"Breakdown of a number of generation units, the late return of other units that have been under planned maintenance and the fact that over the past four days, we have significantly depleted our reserves of both diesel and water in our pump storage faculties.

"These two act as the battery or the buffer that protects us against a total system blackout."
He said their emergency reserves have been depleted to the point where they risk not having enough back-up supplies.
Eskom's implementing stage two of the power cuts from 11am until 5am on Monday.
