Springfield Value Centre reopens after unrest

The owners of Springfield Value Centre, which was relentlessly looted and gutted by fires during the unrest, say they're ready for a fresh start.
The Durban shopping complex is reopening its doors today for the first time in over a year.
SA Corporate's Donald Mclellan says it spent millions to rebuild the Electron Road mall, which was trashed, burned and left in ruins after the riots.
"The damage was extensive, most of the building was actually burnt and damaged to the extent that it had to be demolished and rebuilt from the ground up."
Mclellan, the national marketing manager for SA Corporate, says 70% of the complex will welcome back customers on Thursday.
"We are very proud of ourselves that we were able to bounce back to the position that we are in. The centre does play a substantial role in terms of creating employment in the area.
"A lot of people demand on the centre for the livelihoods, so we are grateful that we were able to rebuild and get the centre back to a very strong position."
