Springfield protest closes busy road
Updated | By Natarah Nadesan
Protest action near Makro Springfield has led to the closure of a busy route on Friday morning.
"There is a service delivery protest regarding electricity," says Durban Metro Police spokesperson, Geraldine Steven.
"It is on Umgeni Road or the M19 between Makro and Thekwini College. Both bounds have been blocked with the protestors."

Images shared by officers show debris and branches burning in the middle of the road, on both sides.
"SAPS are on scene and our public order police are on their way. I would suggest that motorists use alternate routes. The protest is not violent at the moment."
