Special ANC NEC meeting postponed

The crucial ANC NEC meeting has been postponed.

The discussions, that were meant to focus on President Jacob Zuma's future as head of statehave been moved to the 17th and 18th of this month.  

The day started with an unprecedented announcement by Speaker of Parliament, Baleka Mbete that the State of the Nation Address would be postponed. 

"This is in order to create room for establishing a much more conducive, political atmosphere in Parliament," Mbete said.

This while the ANC NEC was due to meet for a special sitting on Wednesday to discuss the President Zuma's future amid pressure for him to leave office. 

Following what was termed fruitful discussions between Zuma and ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa - the announcement came that the NEC was postponed. 

Meanwhile, the EFF have urged the president to hand in his resignation, COPE wants Parliament to finalise the impeachment process to hold Zuma to account.  

The DA's John Steenhuisen says if Zuma step down, Cyril Ramaphosa will automatically fill the vacancy.

"The deputy president would automatically in terms of the Constitutional precedence become the acting president. Thereafter, there are 30 days for the National Assembly to convene and elect a president. The other option - the spectre of the motion of no confidence or an introduction of an impeachment motion is a spectre looming large over his head," he says.
