SPCA wants justice for starved dog
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
More than a thousand people have signed an online petition, asking that a Phoenix man who allegedly left his dog to starve to death - be brought to book.

The Durban and Coast SPCA found the dog's emaciated remains tethered to the end of a chain in the yard, last March.
According to the vet's report, he'd suffered chronic starvation.
Criminal charges were laid against the dog's owner immediately but he has yet to appear before a court.
The SPCA started the petition on Friday.
SPCA spokesperson Tanya Fleischer says the owner needs to be prosecuted.
“We’re hoping that by showing the magistrate that we have the support of the public, that we can be granted a court date and that the owner can be brought to justice,” she says.
By Monday morning, the petition had 1 110 signatures, from people as far afield as the United Kingdom.
Fleischer says the SPCA is grateful for the support.
“We’ll keep fighting to make sure that justice is served,” she says.
