South Coast protests: Police remain on alert
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
There's still high police presence in the Izingolweni area on the South Coast.
Protests over water supply outages erupted in the town and in most area's under the Ugu Municipality earlier this week.
Protestors brought the South Coast to its knees this week after they blocked off the N2 and the R102 and other routes leading to Port Shepstone.
Residents have been without running water for months while for some supply has been intermittent.
On Thursday some 300 residents from the Izotsha area gathered and made their way in the direction of South Coast Mall. Police managed to disperse the crowd and have confirmed that 60 people were arrested.
Izingolweni was a no-go zone for most of the week after protestors broke into shopping centre and looted the shops.
Police confirmed that 128 people were arrested.
Cooperative Governance MEC, Sipho Hlomuka, says a team has been established to deal with the water outages plaguing the area.
